Living in the Land of Goshen

There are so many out of work, struggling in this economically challenging time. The financial hardship our country is facing is reflected on the faces of so many people these days. I have a word for you: no matter what you’ve been navigating in your life—heartbreak, difficult situations in your relationships, or financial challenges, God is bringing you through.

At the end of the year last year, so many people in our congregation were hurting. One Wednesday night I asked for those who were without jobs to come forward for prayer and the aisles filled up and overflowed. That affected our finances as a church as well and we were really standing in faith at the close of the year to see our needs as a church met as well as the needs of those in our congregation that were hurting financially.

Today we can live in the land of Goshen. In Exodus 8 and 9, Egypt was facing the ten plaques that came upon the people of that land as a result of Pharaoh’s refusal to let God’s people go. The Israelites—God’s people—were held captive within Egypt as slaves to the Egyptian people. Their town within the empire was the land of Goshen. As you read these chapters you see that each plaque came upon the Egyptians but the Israelites where spared because of their covenant with God. When darkness fell in Egypt, there was light in the land of Goshen. When hail fell from the sky in Egypt, there was no hail in Egypt. God’s hand was upon his people and his hand is upon us—his children today.

No matter where we are, we have to admit, God has been good to us. God multiplies our seed for kingdom purposes. He is always faithful to bring the breakthrough that is needed in our lives individually and corporately as his body. The Lord delivered what we needed to pay our bills at the end of the year. I believe you are also experiencing results to your faith in the areas of your life that you have needs.
